The field of African American studies observes the culture, history, politics, and social aspects of Black American people.
How to Apply
Students must be in good academic standing with at least a 2.00 GPA to apply to the minor.
Apply online through My.IllinoisState.edu. The application is on the Academics tab, under the Apply to Major/Minor link.
AAS students complete 18 credit hours of courses in History, English, and other disciplines that compliment their major program of study. Review the course catalogfor more information. To discuss a proposed plan of study for the minor, contact Dr. Ron Gifford.

Other courses approved by the minor advisor may be counted toward the minor. Topics courses (e.g., HIS 309, SWK 330, WGS 391, COM 390) are commonly used as electives for the minor but must be preapproved by the minor director and advisor.
Advising
